The Gary in ApotheGARY
I’m Gary, the founder of ApotheGARY, and my journey with scent spans over 15 years. I’ve always been captivated by the way fragrance can shape a space in a moment, lift a mood, or unlock a forgotten memory. Whether wandering through boutiques in Covent Garden or chasing a fleeting aroma through a store, I’ve long been on a personal mission to find the perfect scent.
In 2015, after being diagnosed with a rare soft tissue sarcoma, I found healing in creating a sanctuary at home—surrounding myself with beautiful, luxurious aromas. Frustrated by mass-market products made with paraffin wax, weak scents, and synthetic additives, I started making my own: clean-burning, plant-based candles, wax melts, diffusers, and room sprays using sustainable, cruelty-free ingredients.
After pausing that business in 2018 to focus on property renovations, I reignited my passion in 2023. A scent sparked a powerful memory, and I knew it was time to return. In 2025, I founded ApotheGARY, and I hand-pour every product in Lancashire using plant based waxes, phthalate-free, vegan-friendly ingredients.
The tagline “A Moment, A Mood, A Memory” reflects how deeply I believe in the emotional power of scent. It’s more than fragrance—it’s storytelling, self-care, and sensory connection.
The name ApotheGARY came from a playful nod to “Rose Apothecary’, a joke with a friend who says I remind them of David Rose from Schitt’s Creek, who owns the store. That blend of humour, style, and intention is at the heart of everything I create.
ApotheGARY is my love letter to the power of aroma, and the sanctuary we create with it.
